Fansipan Mountain Sapa – The roof of Indochina

Fansipan Mountain Sapa or Phan Xi Păng in Vietnamese is the place that shouldn’t be missed when visiting Sapa, the famous town in northern Vietnam. Fansipan Mountain is often called “The roof of Indochina” as with the height of 3,143 meters (10,312 feet) above sea level, Fansipan Mountain is the highest peak in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos combined.

How do you get to the Fansipan?
To get to Fansipan you first have to travel to Sapa. From Hanoi you can get either the night train to Lao Cai or the night bus or limousine van directly to Sapa.

The cable car station to Fansipan is located in the Sun World Fansipan Legend tourist area, 3 kilometer from Sapa city center. You have a number of choices to get to the cable car station, such as by taxi, train or walk.

Taxi: It will take you around 10 minutes and VND 40,000 for a taxi. This is also the fastest and easiest option.
Walking: The cable car station is not too far from the town, so you are able to walk the distance. Head from the stone church in the center to Thac Bac crossroad. Here you turn left to Nguyen Chi Thanh Street and walk directly to the cable car station. It is arond 1.7 km and there are many signs along the way that point you into the right direction. It is not hard to find.
Train: The best and most fun option in the Muong Hoa mountain train. This funicular train connects the city of Sapa with the Fansipan cable car station. The lenght of the train track is just around 2 km, but the views along the ride are worth the short ride. The train station in next to the MGallery hotel in Sapa and arrives at the Fansipan cable car station. The train passes through different tunnels, crosses a viaduct and offers a view of the majestic natural beauty of the Muong Hoa Valley.

Best time to visit Fansipan
Spring (from March to May) and Autumn (from September to October) are the best time to visit Fansipan mountain. You have the most change on clear days and great views. In addition the weather is pleasant; not too hot or not too cold.

You can visit Fansipan all year round, although during the summer months (from June to August), it can rain a lot and the weather will be very hot. In the winter time (from December to February), the weather can be very cold and there can be even a change of snow.

  • Adults – 737,000 VND per person
  • Children (1 – 1.4 m high) – 540,000 VND per person
  • Children (under 1 m high) – free

Monorail ticket – 99,000 VND per person

Fansipan Mountain Train/Monorail:
Monorail ticket – 99,000 VND per person
